"Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness"
GamePro, March 2003 (#174)
Today I like to touch on franchises that tried to go “dark” and “edgy.” We had quite a few of those back in the 2000s, (even a few today) where developers and/or marketers thought it would be in a franchise’s best interest to makes stories grimmer and retool characters into teeth-grinding, brooding, murdering psychopaths. Following away from Jak II, we move on towards former ’90s sex-symbol Lara Croft, who shed her tight-fit green top and flirty wink for a black top and some thick mascara. Angel of Darkness put Lara out on the run, being falsely charged with murdering her mentor and, to clear her name, murdering everyone else. I don’t even know if there was a tomb involved.
Also, I only post this ad because I was unable to find an ad for Bomberman Act Zero: the poster child for the ill-advised gritty reboot.
